Starbucks Corp. (SBUX) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) have launched a new Starbucks for Outlook add-in, making Starbucks available via Microsoft Outlook.
The add-in will enable a user to schedule a meeting at the local Starbucks store and also send gift cards from the Outlook inbox. The plan for the add-in was announced at Microsoft's Build developer conference in March this year.
"In this fast paced, hyper-connected world, where meetings are often conducted remotely or in a formal office setting, we sometimes lose a personal connection which is so important in building a great business relationship," the Outlook team said.
Outlook noted that it would now be easier for a user to have that personal connection by enabling him to meet customers, business partners or study group at a Starbucks location, all with a few clicks from his Outlook inbox.
Simply click the "Meet at Starbucks" command from the ribbon when creating a new meeting request, search for a nearby Starbucks store, and add it as the location for an upcoming meeting.
Starbucks is enticing people to use the new add-in by saying that for a limited time, users who send a Starbucks eGift Card from their Outlook inbox to their friends or co-workers as an expression of thanks or appreciation of a job will be eligible to get a free $5 eGift card in return.
The Starbucks for Outlook add-in is available in the Office Store as a free download to users of the new Outlook.com, Outlook 2013, and Outlook 2016 as well as Outlook on the web users with Office 365, Exchange 2013 or Exchange 2016 mailboxes.
Office 365 and Outlook.com users can visit https://aka.ms/getcoffee to begin the installation. Users of Exchange 2016 or Exchange 2013 on premise must follow steps detailed on Microsoft's website.
