We are using Outlook 2007 and we are getting this error message from one of
the coworker's email. We have a small business network with the mail server
being supplied by the ISP.

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: FW: Week in Review

Sent: 3/9/2009 8:57 AM

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

'xxxxx@msn.com' on 3/9/2009 8:57 AM

550 5.7.1 <xxxxx@msn.com>... Relaying denied. Proper
authentication required.

I called our ISP and checked the Port Numbers and Mail Server IP And he said
that all looked good. I have the server authentication using incoming mail
server settings selected. I have checked it against the older computer from
which the person moved from and it seems all the settings are identical. She
has 3 other people's emails being relayed into her inbox because they left
the company, so she took over their positions as well. The ISP setup the
relay, he said everything looked good on his end. She is however able now to
send emails to some people, but others it will bounce back with that error
message.

Any suggestions? This is getting extremely frustrating. I've done all that I
know, and am out of fixes. Thanks in advance!

They are outlook email addresses supplied by the ISP
EX. Bob@YourTownConstruction.com
The ISP is able to reset the passwords, setup forwarding etc.
She is able to send me ( At my hotmail ) messages now after I selected the
"use mail server settings" option under authentification, however today she
is unable to send to "select" people.

So what would I need to do to make it "Authenticate" or is it on the other
end and out of my control?

It's just weird to me that she can send and receive no problem from some
addresses, but others instantly kick back to her inbox with that error
message.

I appreciate your help Brian!

The outgoing server is configured to use the same settings and login as the
incoming mail server. No secure connection or encryptions etc. And if I run
test emails it logs on fine and I receive the test emails just fine. I Heart
Outlook...

I figured it out. The problem was this user has 5 email accounts linked up
and relayed to her one primary account. He default account was set up with
the outgoing mail server using the incoming server's settings and login,
problem was, the other 5 addresses were not selected as having those same
defaults. ( Stupid me ) I'm just the temp stand-in IT Guy, and the only
problem I've ever had was with Outlook. ; )

Thanks again for your help Brian!

AWESOME! Thank you so much, Brian! I had the identical situation - multiple emails relaying to one, where one outgoing server setting was different. Wheee!
