The error message is telling you you have a damaged data file and need to
run the Inbox Repair Tool to repair it.

Thanks

This is what I appear to be dealing with except I have the new Vista. I
will try the solution for the older system.

Thank You. The last line of your first paragraph is where I seem to need to
be. I go there and get about a dozen old files and then I can't seem to do
anything with them. I think one of these files may be the one that did not
close correctly? I ran the office diagnostics program and everything is OK.

My computer says errors in file
C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Local\Microsoft|Outlook|Outlook.pst

The send function is now locked up as well as delete.

Help

Which Office diagnostics program is that? Did you run it with Outlook
closed?

What is the exact message and which application is it that gives you the
message?

Thanks for sticking with me. When I go to delete or move a message I get
the following message: Errors have been detected in the file
C:|Users|Jim|AppData\Local\Microsoft|Outlook|Outlook.pst. Quit Outlook and
all mail-enabled applications, and then use the inbox repair tool
(scanpst.ext) to diagnose and repair errors in file. For more information
about the inbox repair tool, see help.

I went to help, office Diagnostics. I have done this procedure several
times and one time did not close Outlook to see if that would do it when I
ran the diagnostic set.

I have now worked around the problem by creating new personal folders and
routing to these new folders. However, the problem remains in the old
personal folders where all the past files are.

Did you use the Inbox Repair Tool (SCANPST.EXE) on the PST?

Yes you do. You cited its path in your previous message. Look at your own

Hi Brian

I have been down that road numerous times. When I get to the forkin the
road...open file with web or installed system I end up in my Palm program as
the preferred system or I end up on the web and wander, wander, without ever
finding the inbox repair tool. Obviously I still need more pointers.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you mean by the above.

To find your PST, Click the WIndows button and in the Search field, enter

%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook

and press Enter. Explorer should open to a folder and in that folder you
should see your PST, named Outlook.pst.

If you start the Inbox Repair Tool (the file %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft
Office\Office12\Scanpst.exe), when it asks for the path to the PST, enter
"%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst"
(without the quotes).

computer I must have hid it:-)

Found the button. Clicking it gives me choices....new mail, new
business,save,save as,delete,move,permission,print,properties, close.
However, I went through computer, to c drive and chased oulook pst and it
gave a Palm desktop screen again. Further proding and it says this system
does not support my version of Palm. This problem, I thought, I had dealt
with earlier by downloading a beta from Palm. Evidentially not....Just a
guess as to what file is hanging up in Outlook.

It's the Windows Logo button at the left end of the Task Bar, that takes the
place of XP's Start button.

Thanks. Mine still says start. It takes me nowhere on search with
%Local\AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook. I have accessed this screen through C
drive previously. This is the screen that ultimately pops up with Palm
installation and is a dead end screen as it will not recognize my Palm phone.
I did a work around with a beta download from Palm but this old file is
still showing in Outlook.pst

I've never seen a Vista that has a button labeled "Start" and the above path
is _not_ what I typed. Go read previous message again.
