This solved my problem. It was a corrupt Outlook.pst file.
I am glad you took the time to respond! I hope I can do the same for others
in the future.

after doing all this ,I get the a error message stating that the pst file is
in use by another application. Close Microsoft Office outlook and all other
mail-enabled applications, and try again.
I did all the above and I still get vthe same message.

Had this on SBS2003 client computers. Should not have .pst fault with Microsoft Exchange Server connected clients, however some options can make this possible. Switch off 'Cached Exchange Mode'. Remember to exit and restart Outlook, better still do it the old fashioned way and reboot too. Also updated to all XP and Office 2003 updates from Microsoft, via Windows Update. Et Voila !Foobar
