Having a problem with Outlook deleting messages from the Inbox when I don't
want it to. Basically, messages can be opened and read as normal, but on
closing a message Outlook deletes it instead of just leaving it in the inbox
and marking it as read.
Sounds like you have a view set to hide read messages. (See View > Arrange
By > Current View. You can also start Outlook with the /cleanviews command
line switch to delete all custom views and reset the built-in ones back to
their default.)

i am pretty sure outlook doesn't delete the mails but only hides them because
you activated the view filter only show unread items...
access VIEW / CURRENT VIEW menu and check it out...
