Deleted a recurring diary entry and at the time got a message which I closed
(cannot remember what it said). All recurring entries now gone from Diary
BUT diary still thinks there is something present at each time (if I book a
new appt. it tells me I have a conflict even though nothing is there). Also ,
the day in question is in bold on the calender as if an item is present
(although nothing is there).
More seriously , when I try to open address book or hit to or cc buttons in
new mail I get "the messaging interface has returned an unknown error". "If
the problem persists please restart outlook"
If I go to file, data file management and settings I get following error.
"an unknown error occurred, error code 0x80040605
Any ideas? I have had to switch to an alternative mail program for now...
Have already tried repairing pst. creating new profile etc.
I am having exactly the same problems with Outlook 2003 with all the
updates. Although I didn't get any prior error messages. Just opened
up Outlook today and anything that requires the address book will not
work.
I think some automatic updates may have been installed since I last
used Outlook.
Any help or pointing in the right direction will be much appreciated!

We also have this problem - if you remove Critical Update 921594 fixes the
problem
Description of the security update for Outlook 2002: January 9, 2007
INTRODUCTION
Microsoft has released security bulletin MS07-003. The security bulletin
contains all the relevant information about the security update for
Microsoft Outlook 2002.
Looks like Microsoft should be involved on this one
I have seen some posts in and around which points some issues with Add-Ins. Remove all non native Outlook Add-Ins, restart OL and see if it solves your problem.
Goto Tools > Options > Other tab > Advanced Options > AddIn Manager and remove all non native AddIns.
This problem persist due to the exceeded the built-in .pst size limit. You can work around this problem by allowing upgrade to large tables. If the problem persists then use the Inbox Repair Tool and create a new pst File. If problem also is not solved then you can take help of pst repair software. The pst repair software is easy to use and provides robust and powerful recovery. In demo version you can preview 5 e-mails, 20% of contacts and calendar entries from which you can evaluated the efficiency & recovery capability of software.
The problem with this issue is the mapi profile is getting corupted. Under Control Panel Mail icon click and rebuild a new Outlook profile. Once you rebuild a new profile you will be able to connect to the exchange server again and build a new copy of your mail profile. Ergo you will be able to down load a fresh copy of your address booki. This was a difficult one to solve but I proved it in 3 different enviornments so I know it is correct. Enjoy the sollution and vote yes on proposition 8
Thank you glad I could used my 27 years of experience and help all that wish it.
Once this is done you will be able to create new emails and replies because the profile Outlook will be able to authenticate with the proper msmapi32.dll in commonfiles under program files.

FIXED!
Problem: Error message when you try to print another user's shared calendar in Outlook 2003: "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error"
Solution:
1. On the File menu, click Print.
2. Click Page Setup.
3. On the Format tab, click to clear the TaskPad check box.
4. Click OK to close the Page Setup dialog box.
5. With the Daily Style print style selected, click OK to print the shared calendar.
I also “reset” the Outlook MAPI file first, but this is not part of the solution.

Wow. Thank you. It solved my problem with this annoying message (Task, Calendar). Hint: I recently used the new MilkSync Beta to sync my RememberTheMilk account with my BlackBerry and Outlook. Maybe this didn't help.

Hi
I had a problem with my email (Outlook 2002)saying that and unknown error (0X8004060C) was causing my email not to work. After looking through forums like this I tried using the inbox repair to fix it. This didn't work. Reason, my pst file had exceeded 2 GB. Soooo I tried deleting files from my inbox but then a message would come up "messaging interface has caused an error". On I battle to yet another forum where it lead me to a tool that I downloaded to truncate the size of the pst file down below 2 GB.
I'm having lots of fun by now sloshing through all this very technical jargon.
But when it still didn't work I'm thinking WTF now.
Answer: If you have an archive box, right click on the mail you don't want in your inbox and click on "move to folder" and then click on "archive folders".
I did this with heaps and heaps of old emails and " hey presto", "Wahoo" "Yippee" I can now delete properly old emails and my send and receive works perfectly.
I hope this helps people out there as these forums are a great way for all us not so technical ( computers can't live with them but got to) people to solve these pesky problems without having to pay someone to fix it.
Cheers
I started getting this error when I try to delete duplicate recurring calendar entries. In some cases I have 4 or 5 duplicates resulting from syncing my phone with multiple computers. My pst file is 330MB, no where near the limit. And scanpst has not worked. The problem followed me from Office 2003 to 2007. And as I use outlook for POP access, the "Exchange" oriented solution above doesn't apply to me.
Delete the Outlook profile and replace it with a new profile will commonly fix this issue. You will be able to re-enter all the proper information to re-connect to the e-mail exhange server to retrieve your mail.

Hi,
I've had the same problem and in my case the problem was solved by adding the pst files again in Outlook.(exchange)
The user had a power outage in the company so everybody in that location was affected.
So now when she tries to print from the agenda she receives this error.
I first scanned the pst and ost file,no result I wanted to see if she has any other pst files stored other than the locally stored files, after opening :data file mgt" to locate the other pst files I was surprised to find that there weren't any pst files added.
So I added all the pst files again and closed data file mgt.menu and let her try to print and it worked.!!!!!
I ended up creating a brand new OL2007 pst file and copying each set of folders & contacts to the new pst file. Then I retired / closed the old pst file. Once I re-created the calendar entries in the new file, I no longer saw the problem.
