Whether you're using it for personal information, e-mail, collaborative networking, or some combination of these, Microsoft Outlook is a subtle, powerful application. If you want to make the most of using it, take a look at Special Edition: Using Microsoft Outlook 2000, a gigantic reference written specifically for intermediate to advanced users.
Author Gordon Padwick, who has tested and worked with Outlook since before its initial release in 1997, provides clear directions for every aspect of Outlook's information management, from basic communication and information organization to developing Outlook-based applications. If you're already familiar with older versions, you'll get the dirt on what Outlook 2000 has to offer: interoperability, better Web support, and nifty scripting and automation with Visual Basic for Applications.
Special Edition: Using Microsoft Outlook 2000 is just about as comprehensive a work as any user will ever need. The CD-ROM greatly enhances its value by including the searchable text of the whole book and other Que Office material. In addition, you'll find tons of demo software and shareware applications that will make your workday a breeze. If you're a serious Outlook user, make sure you keep this book near your desk. --Rob Lightner

Special Edition Using Microsoft Outlook 2000 provides all the information a user, administrator, or programmer needs to maximize their use of Microsoft Outlook 2000. While the book quickly covers the basics of Outlook, it focuses with much greater intensity on advanced information, contact, calendar, and e-mail management techniques -- for both the Internet E-mail Only version of Outlook as well as the Corporate/Workgroup variation. The book covers in great detail the use of Outlook on a LAN as a client for Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Mail, and cc:Mail, and it offers expert advice on a multitude of ways to customize Outlook for maximum personal productivity. Special Edition Using Microsoft Outlook 2000 also includes an entire section on developing Outlook-based applications with custom fields, custom forms, VBScript, and other Office applications.

Very detailed and in depth. I wish the author had a chapter that delt with possible common errors one might run into in a production environment.
Explains many hidden areas of productive extras that can be found deep within Outlook 2000.

This is an excellent reference guide to learn the basics of OL2K - the chapters are well organized and there is excellent information for both first time users and for those who are into automation. Highly recommended. I've had this book for over 4 months and it still gets used.
Great for beginners!

This book is definately a good start for anyone looking to bridge the gap between another PAM and Outlook. It is a good starter for the possibilities offered within. I would follow the book with Outlook 2000 from Wrox Press for a full reference to the program and its object model, but it is definitly a good book for the beginner.
